The Ultimate Immune Supporting Bath

Immunesupportbath

Thieves Essential Oil blend is FANTASTIC for Immune Support.  Everyone tries to replicate and imitate the Thieves blend, but those of us who have used other brands and later start to use Young Living know that no other brand achieves the desired results that the original Thieves Oil blend does.

During the winter months everyone is looking to maintain a healthy immune system.  Apply and diffusing Thieves is one of my favorite ways to help maintain good health.

This immune supporting bath is great for regular winter time bathing and supporting the immune system when those winter months can try to beat it down.  I love to use a few drops in epsom salt for the kids too.  They love it!

Immune Support Bath

1/2 cup Epsom Salt

5-6 drops of Thieves Essential Oil – (I recommend this brand)

1st pour your epsom salt into the tub and add the Thieves oil right on top of the epsom salt.  This will disperse it throughout the waiter.

Epsom Salt  is a great mild detoxifier. And, Thieves oil is a very helpful immune system stimulant.

I would have gotten started with Young Living long before I did if I had known how to get Thieves Essential oil!  I would be doing you a major disservice if you didn’t know how to get it.  Thieves essential oils comes in a Young Living Premium Starter Kit and it also comes in a Thieves Premium Starter kit all with the amazing Thieves line.  You can get started with Young Living here.

I can whole heartedly promote Young Living because there are no strings attached to the membership at all.  If you have any questions please contact me.   I’d love to talk to you about how Young Living can change your life forever.

  1. What essential oil (scent) would you recommend using – as I have several good oils from NOW Foods, so I won’t be purchasing oils from the link you posted.

    • Becky Webb says:

The Thieves oil is one of my favorite blends for its immune boosting properties. It contains clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary. You really could use any of those, a combination of a few or blend your own. Each oil in the blend has specific properties that help boost immunity.

It is important when using essential oils to make sure that they are organic and pure. I’ve used essential oils from Now Foods in the past, but you might want to research a bit to see how they are made, if they are pure, and if they are organic. I don’t think they are but i could be wrong. EOs are volatile since they contain the very essence of the plant so it is super important to invest a little bit and buy quality. If the plant has pesticides then the oils will contain very potent part of those pesticides. Then the oils may also be void of their therapeutic benefit.

    • Danielle Levins says:

The ingredients of Thieves Oil are Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary per the Young Living site, any combination of those ingredients would be helpful. That said, those are EXTREMELY strong oils, and are considered generally unsafe in the Aromatherapy community for children. Please do some additional research on your own. No one brand has the market cornered on quality, they are all testing well. There is a group called Learning About EO’s, you can search for it to find more unbiased information.

      • Thanks for you comment Danielle. Yes Cinnamon and Clove oil are powerful oils and Eucalyptus should not be use on the face of newborns and very young children. It is always important to do research before using oils. Oils should often be tested before use to make sure there are no adverse effects. You can always test a drop diluted in a carrier oil to make sure there are no adverse effects before administering a aromatherapy protocol. The feet are often a good place to start. Never use an oil where a person has a particular allergy or shows a reaction.

However, this bath is a great medium! 5-6 drops of thieves oil is VERY diluted in a huge tub of bath water.

        • Danielle Levins says:

Essential oils that are not appropriate for children under 5 years of age include: Basil, Birch, Black pepper, Cinnamon, Clove, Eucalyptus globulus, Eucalyptus radiata (in some cases Eucalyptus smithii can be used under the guidance of a clinical aromatherapist), Fennel, Juniper, Nutmeg, Oregano, Peppermint, Thyme, Rosemary (all chemotypes).
Children under 2 the preferred method is Hydrosols instead of Essential Oils.

Per Amy Kreydin: Clinical Aromatherapist and referenced from Dr. Jane Buckle’s Clinical Aromatherapy.
          ***
Diluted or not, Thieves oil on a whole is not considered safe for children under 5 because of it’s ingredients, and should be used cautiously and sparingly with children older than 5. I understand that in a whole bath, this is a large dilution, however it might need to be stated that the oil in the bath is mandatory to disperse the oils, otherwise they will just sit on top of the water and then some unsuspecting person might sit down on said oils, like a child who is just doing as they are told, and their tender bits light on fire because those oils were not dispersed, also you could use milk instead of coconut oil if it’s unavailable, or any fat to disperse the oils. No need for anyone’s tender mucous membranes to be burnt unintentionally when all we’re trying to do is help. 🙂

          • We have had no ill effects using these oils our young children. We also diffuse if frequently throughout our home during sickness. The oils have been so helpful in clearing congestion and increasing the body’s innate immune response. However, thanks so much for your thoughts I will add a note that the oil in the bath is important for dispersing the oils.

          • Danielle Levins says:

Thank you for being so kind and respectful, I respect you more for that. I hope that you never have any ill effects in your household using these oils, but if you should encounter any injuries from Essential Oil use, please report them at the Atlantic Institute of Aromatherapy’s new Injury Reporting page. This is something new that they are doing and it is a wonderful resource in the continuing education of the public regarding the safe use of Essential Oils, I am in no way affiliated with this entity, and I see no benefit personally. The benefit is to all of us, so that we can keep track of injuries and see what the most commons ones are to try to help protect the public from injury. http://atlanticinstitute.com/injury-reporting/

          • The epsom salts are a sufficient way to disperse the essential oil in a bath. The extra dilution is a great idea with the coconut oil. Also, I’ve used the Young Living Thieves oil blend on my family without problem and it is definitely a blessing and health benefit. I began using it on my youngest when he was just a few weeks old. And my oldest was quite young as well. Therapeutic grade essential oils are key here. Many people make their own “thieves blend”, but it’s more than likely made with cheap, adulterated oils rather than quality oils.

    • Melanie, I would be more concerned with the NOW brand than anything else. I’ve compared them to Young Living and the potency is way off.

Young Living is the only essential oil company that owns their own farms. They grow their plants using organic seeds, organic soil and organic pest control using essential oils. They do their weed control by hand. They distill the oils using low-steam and low-pressure distillation. Anything higher destroys the therapeutic/healing qualities of oils.

Young Living oils are only first distillation in comparison to health food store versions {NOW, for example} that are often 2nd, 3rd and 4th distillations (this is like coffee and grows less potent with each “brew”) which is why they are cheap. There only has to be 5% of the actual essential oil in a bottle to call it 100% pure. Yuck! For example…France exports 100% more lavender than they produce!!!! This blows my mind because they {other essential oil companies} adulterate the oils with cheap fillers that are often toxic.

Every single batch of essential oil is rigorously tested both in the Young Living lab as well as at a 3rd party lab. Only 28% of Young Living essential oil makes it to the bottle stage. That’s how particular they are about their products. It is incredible. They are a full disclosure company and anyone can go to harvests, distillations etc. They are an open book…unlike any other essential oil company out there who just bottles oils that they buy from suppliers.

So, it might be worth your time to check into the quality of the oils. 🙂

  2. Do I combine the EOs with the coconut oil before adding it to the bathtub? I’m used to using Epsom salts but usually have to stir lots to get them to dissolve. 🙂

    • I typically just drop the coconut oil in the water and then the EO and mix it around a little bit. But, I think it old work just fine if you mixed the coconut oil and EO together first before dropping it into the water.

  3. Yes, having the sniffles 1 or 2 times a year is a sign of a healthy immune system. But, it never helps to give the immune system a little boost.
Am I right in understanding that you actually mean that it never hurts to give the immune system a boost?

    • Becky Webb says:

Of course Patricia! It never hurts to give the immune system a boost. That is why this bath is such a great idea when the immune system is struggling. 🙂

  4. Thank you! I think I’ll try this over the weekend

  5. I mix Thieves Oil into coconut oil to use as a chest/back/foot rub during cold and flu season. Before the kids go out, I rub them with a little. My son has sniffles right now. I think I’ll pop him into a bath with it today.

  6. A Williams says:

Everyone sure has an opinion, huh?… 😉 I think this is great. I’ve also used eucalpytus and clove oils (diluted of course) on my son when he was a baby… clove is amazing for teething! Eucalyptus has been a lifesaver for congestion. I can’t wait to try this on my 3 year old next time he needs it. Ok, well I can wait because I don’t WANT him to get sick… you know what I mean. 🙂

  7. Thanks for sharing this and being so kind in your comments. Is there a brand or link you would recommended to buy Epsom salt? How often in a week or month can we do this kinda bath for a kid under 2 who has congestion? Also I would like to know if this bath is safe for kids with wheezing or asthma. If you are aware of any information good or bad related to the bath and asthma/ wheezing problems please share.
Your answer will be of real comfort to me .Thanks

    • Becky Webb says:

Hi! As far as I know any kind of Epsom salt is just the same. I think any drugstore or Walmart will do as far as Epsom salt. I don’t believe there is any difference in quality. I typically this bath to my children several times when they are sick, even daily when they have a lot of congestion. To boost immunity you could probably give it to them once a week or whenever you think they may have been around individuals that are not well. If they are under two I just wouldn’t advise washing their hair in this bath or allowing them to dunk their face. Young Living has wonderful oils that you can use for asthma such as Eucalyptus and a blend called RC. I don’t know specifically if any of the oils in the Theieves oil blend are problematic for asthma. I would have to do a little research to find out.

  10. My son is allergic to coconut. What is a replacement we can use for coconut oil? He’s allergic to tree nuts and peanuts, too.

  11. I have been a big fan of Epsom salt and coconut oil for years but I have never used them together, so I really loved reading this post. Blending Epsom salt and coconut oil with Thieves essential oil sounds like a wonderful natural remedy. This is especially useful during cold and flu season. I can’t wait to try this in my home. Thank you so much for sharing this with us at the Healthy, Happy, Green & Natural hop! I’m sure this will be helpful to many!

  12. My kids have been sick four times in the last three months now with Scarlet Fever. I just tried this bath tonight but also added lavender for my sons skin. Let both my two and four year olds soak till they wanted out. Am hoping this helps. I can say however their skin is the most moisturized its ever been. Question though will this clog plumming?

    • Becky Webb says:

Hey Tanya. Your poor little ones. 🙁 I have never had trouble with this clogging plumbing. Coconut oil will become liquid at 76 degrees. If the water is warm enough I would think it would just wash down the drain. So I don’t think so, but I can’t claim to be an expert.

  13. Christina says:

Is an Epsom salt bath ok for a 2 1/2 year old?? I am a user of YL and know about their purities. But I am unsure about Epsom salt baths for 2 year olds. The warnings and directions on my bag of Epsom salt states “consult a doctor” for children under 6. My little one has a cold. I want to use essential oils in her bath. I don’t want to use coconut oil in the tub, although that would have been a good option. So I guess my question is why does it state to consult doctor for children under 6? Thanks.

    • Becky Webb says:

I’m not a doctor Christina. But, I do put my two year old in epsom salts every time she gets in the bath. I use about a cup.
