An Easy Way to Test Yourself for Food Allergies

Avoid Expensive Food Sensitivity Tests and Test Yourself in Minutes

School is beginning again next week and my children’s preschool prohibits packing any kind of nuts in their school lunch.  This is challenging for me since I like to include nuts into our diet.  I can not even include baked goods with almond flour in their lunch, which I do cook with on occasion.  My children don’t have any food allergies that we know of, but it is no secret that a raising number of children and adults in the US today do have food allergies, very severe allergies.  And, many nut allergies can be scary since they lead to anaphylaxis.    Testing for food allergies can be expensive.  If not expensive for your pocket book, they may be expensive for your insurance company which will in tern increase your costs.

What happens if food sensitivities aren’t addressed?

Anaphylaxis is not the only reason to be wary of food sensitivities. Food sensitvities irritate the body and can cause increased inflammation in the gut.  These sensitives add stress on the body and interfere with the body’s natural digestive processes.  They cause an overall body tension and an undue stress as well as a cascade of problems.  When these sensitivities are not addressed they ultimately can interfere with the body’s innate ability to heal itself.  In order to find true gut healing and in tern allow the body to heal, it is very important to eliminate sensitive foods from the diet.

Test Yourself for Food Sensitives In Minutes with the Cocoa Pulse Test

Tests performed by an allergist can be extremely expensive and so can many tests that are done by holistic health providers.  With the Coca Pulse Test you can easily test yourself at home in only minutes, just by taking your pulse.

What is the Coca Pulse Test and how does it work?

The Coca Pulse Test was developed by Dr. Arthur Coca in 1956.  It was designed to identify offending foods by observance of their increased stress on the body by simply taking the pulse both at a baseline and then with food in the mouth to see if the pulse increases. If the pulse increases then there is an immediate stress in the body caused by the food taken orally.

Dr. Coca’s  original book is available for free online here.    His test is a bit more time-consuming than the simple test below, but all the principles and other valuable information are present in his book.

The Pulse Test

Procedure:

1.  Make sure you are sitting and relaxed.

2. Place two fingers on the artery in your neck or on your wrist and find your pulse.

3. Take your baseline pulse for a full minute and record your pulse.

4. Put a the suspected offending food on your tongue. Chew, but do not swallow. It is important to taste this food for at least 30 seconds before performing the test.

5. Take your pulse again for a full minute while this food is in your mouth and record your pulse.

An jump of 6 or more beats indicates an allergic reaction to your food. The more stressed the body is the more the pulse will quicken. You can test other foods in the same session, however do not swallow your foods.  Spit out the food and make sure you don’t taste it in your mouth and make sure your test has returned to normal.  Then you can test other foods.

*Note:  This test is not valid if you are taking any kind of heart regulated medications such as beta blockers or a calcium-channel blocker.

It is important to remember that at times food allergies have been known to heal.  But, foods my be completely eliminated from the diet in order to heal.  After removing offending foods for 6 months or more try to Coca pulse test again to see if the body has healed from its sensitivity.

Are you sensitive to any foods?  Have you tried this test at home?

  1. Wow I’m really excited to test this out. When I do eat something I shouldn’t my heart races. Thank you for posting this test. I’m going to to do this today

  2. The pulse test sounds like a very laid back test option for food allergy detection. As one who dislikes needles, I think I would opt for having my pulse checked. My brother developed an allergic reaction several years ago. At the allergist’s office, they pricked him with something like two hundred different needles in order to get an idea as to what he was allergic to. That sounds super time consuming.
